Speech-Language Therapy

Speech-language therapy is a service that helps individuals increase overall communication skills. When working in pediatrics, speech-language therapists use their knowledge and expertise to help children with speech, language or both, while participating in developmental activities though play. When a child has trouble understanding what others say, it is a receptive language disorder. When a child has problems sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings, it is an expressive language disorder. When a child has trouble saying sounds, stutters, or has voice problems, it is a speech disorder.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a service that helps individuals achieve independence performing everyday tasks or functions.  When working in pediatrics, occupational therapists use their knowledge and expertise to help children achieve independence in learning and developmental activities through play, education, and social participation.  This can include fine and visual motor skills, visual perceptual skills, bilateral coordination, self-help skills, sensory processing, motor planning, muscle strengthening, and sensory integration. As children perform various tasks, therapists will also help to implement modifications or adaptations to the child, environment, or task to allow for independence.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is a service that enables individuals to maximize their functional abilities and to complete activities of daily living.  In pediatrics, physical therapy promotes children to change positions and move around to the best of their potential.  Physical therapists use a variety of techniques from manual therapy to strengthening/stretching activities to simulated transfers or transitions.  Physical Therapy develops gross motor skills, increases strength, improves range of motion, and educates families in order to achieve goals typically related to encouraging movement and independence in children.
